asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made in the examination of the financing of local government.

Mr. G. Campbell

Pending the report of the Allen Committee, a working party of the Departments principally concerned is assembling and examining the relevant material.

Mr. Hamilton

Will it be available to us when we form the Government in October?

Mr. Campbell

That is a quite hypothetical event, and I cannot tell the hon. Gentleman. The Allen Report is expected later this year.
