The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Vice-Admiral John Hughes Hallett)

This Amendment is necessary to cover an omission from the Bill as originally drafted.

Amendment agreed to.

Vice-Admiral Hughes Hallett

I beg to move, in page 3, line 7, at the end to add: and 'document' includes any record or device by means of which material is recorded or stored". The United States Federal Maritime Commission often asks for information which may nowadays be recorded on tapes rather than in documentary form. For example, there are records of oral conversations which are sometimes asked for, and there is also material which is recorded on computer tapes in connection with accounts. It is, therefore, necessary to ensure that the Bill covers these modern methods of storing information.

Amendment agreed to.

Clause, as amended, ordered to stand part of the Bill.
