Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in HANSARD a nominal roll of the 114 schools in condemned or obsolete buildings which remain for replacement in Staffordshire, together with a list of the dates on which each building was first condemned as unsuitable.
§ Mr. HoggNo, Sir. The schools to be replaced fall short of the statutory building regulations but are not condemned or obsolete in any technical sense.
§ Mr. SwinglerWould the right hon. and learned Gentleman care to explain 1533 exactly what that means, in the light of the Answer I was given a short time ago? Is it not a fact that there are over 100 schools in Staffordshire which are condemned in this way? The rate of replacement is very small and very slow indeed. Would he care to look at this matter again?
§ Mr. HoggIf the hon. Gentleman asks me, of course, I will look at it again. I have been at great pains to discover whether his condemnation that buildings are of an obsolete character was a correct description of these schools. I have been informed that it is not.
