HC Deb 02 July 1964 vol 697 c1538
31. Mr. G. Johnson Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress has been made to implement the plan he announced recently for setting up industrial liaison centres in colleges of advanced technology and technical colleges.

Sir E. Boyle

Industrial liaison officers have now been appointed in four colleges: these are in addition to the five appointments previously made at Scottish colleges. The scheme has been accepted at nine other colleges and recruitment is proceeding there. Preliminary negotiations are in progress with nine further colleges.

Mr. Johnson Smith

While congratulating my right hon. Friend on the progress which has been made, and which I am sure will be greeted favourably outside the House, may I ask on the question of recruitment, to what extent these centres have been able to attract people from industry as visiting professors?

Sir E. Boyle

Perhaps my hon. Friend would put down a Question on that specific issue, but to the best of my knowledge recruitment is going well.
