HC Deb 30 January 1964 vol 688 cc532-3
Q7. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister on what date the Committee which he appointed to inquire into salaries of Ministers and Members of Parliament and related matters first met; and how many meetings they have held.

The Prime Minister

I do not consider that I am responsible for the arrangements this Committee makes for its meetings.

Mr. Lewis

Is the Prime Minister aware that until at least a few days ago the Committee had not even met? As he is responsible for setting up the Committee, can he tell us who is responsible for seeing that it meets? What is the purpose of having a Committee that does not meet?

The Prime Minister

I understand that the panel has had several discussions, met formally yesterday, and saw the Committee this morning.

Mr. Lewis

That is only since I put down the Question. Are we to take it that every time we want a meeting of the Committee I must put down a Question?

The Prime Minister

The hon. Gentleman puts down a lot of Questions, anyhow.
