§ 34. Mr. W. Hamiltonasked the Lord President of the Council and Minister for Science whether he will now take the appropriate action to ensure implementation of the recommendation of the Robbins Committee that at least one and perhaps two new universities should be established in Scotland.
§ Mr. HamiltonIs the right hon. and learned Gentleman satisfied that the short-term problem can be met by extensions of existing facilities at existing universities? If he is so satisfied, can he nevertheless give an assurance that, from the psychological point of view, the statement which he has promised will be made in a very short time, because Scotland is desperately anxious to have a firm decision very soon?
§ Mr. HoggI expect that the statement will be made in a week or two, but what the psychological effect of that delay will be I can only speculate.
