HC Deb 27 February 1964 vol 690 c614
19. Mr. Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps, as recommended by the Second Report of the Commonwealth Immigrants Advisory Council, to appoint a full-time officer to co-operate with local authorities and voluntary bodies interested in the welfare of Commonwealth immigrants, and to collect and circulate information.

Mr. Brooke

The Advisory Council recommended that a Government grant should be made to finance the appointment of such an officer by a voluntary committee. As I announced in answer to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Plymouth, Devonport (Miss Vickers) on 6th February, the Government accept this recommendation, and the necessary provision is being made in Estimates.

Mr. Fletcher

Will the right hon. Gentleman take it that that reply will be very generally welcomed?
