§ 19. Mr. Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps, as recommended by the Second Report of the Commonwealth Immigrants Advisory Council, to appoint a full-time officer to co-operate with local authorities and voluntary bodies interested in the welfare of Commonwealth immigrants, and to collect and circulate information.
§ Mr. BrookeThe Advisory Council recommended that a Government grant should be made to finance the appointment of such an officer by a voluntary committee. As I announced in answer to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Plymouth, Devonport (Miss Vickers) on 6th February, the Government accept this recommendation, and the necessary provision is being made in Estimates.
§ Mr. FletcherWill the right hon. Gentleman take it that that reply will be very generally welcomed?
