HC Deb 26 February 1964 vol 690 cc419-20
23. Mr. Gower

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of public demand for a sub-post office to be set up at Tyn-y-Parc Road, Rhiwbina, near Cardiff, as shown by support for a petition in its favour, he will reconsider his refusal to authorise its establishment.

Mr. Mawby

We have reconsidered the matter but, as there are already two post offices within half a mile of the Tyn-y-Parc area and others not a great deal further away, I am sorry we should not be justified in opening yet another office.

Mr. Randall

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this Question must be associated with a number of Questions which have preceded it concerning the siting of sub-post offices? Will the hon. Gentleman give serious consideration to the claim which has been made by me on several occasions that there should be a complete re-examination of this matter in order that numerous complaints made throughout the country can be met?

Mr. Mawby

As the hon. Gentleman knows, this matter is under constant review. I will certainly take note of what he says.

Mr. Gower

In addition to the difficulties already mentioned, can my hon. Friend give an assurance that he is taking full account of the extent of the growth of population in this area?

Mr. Mawby

Yes. We have taken account of this and obviously, as in other cases, we will watch developments to make certain that the conditions do not change.
