§ 25. Mr. Lubbockasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what information he has on the area of disused burial grounds in the Greater London area, arising from his survey of the use of land in that area.
§ Mr. CorfieldMy right hon. Friend has made no survey of land use in the Greater London area.
§ Mr. LubbockWould it not be a good idea to look at this matter in the light of the shortage of land in the Greater London area? In particular will the Minister consider removing the prohibitions on building contained in the Disused Burial Grounds Act, 1884, after the lapse of a fixed number of years of an Order in Council made under that Act?
§ Mr. CorfieldIn reply to the first part of the hon. Member's supplementary question, local authorities are able to obtain the detailed information to which he referred, and no doubt do so. On the second part, I must ask the hon. Member 227 to await the outcome of the review of the general law on burial and cremation when that Act will be considered.
Mr. J. WellsWill my hon. Friend look into this matter more closely and find out more precisely just what is the policy of the Liberal Party on building houses in graveyards?
