§ 17. Mr. Boydenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the current Purchase Tax yield on rucksacks.
§ Mr. MaudlingI regret that there is no separate information about the yield of tax from rucksacks.
§ Mr. BoydenWill the right hon. Gentleman look at this tax with a view to removing it in the next Budget? Is is not absurd that the Ministry of Education spends large sums of money on encouraging young people to take part in open-air activities and then the Chancellor of the Exchequer takes the money back from them when they pursue these activities?
§ Mr. MaudlingI cannot speculate on what the Budget may or may not contain, but I will consider what the hon. Member has said.
