HC Deb 17 December 1964 vol 704 c556
27. Mr. Kitson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the need to clarify the position as regards ancillary office development within the Greater London area; and when he will make a further statement on this subject.

Mr. Jay

I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the Answer which I gave to my hon. Friend, the Member for Wrexham (Mr. J. Idwal Jones) on 20th November.

Mr. Kitson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these statements have not clarified the position and that the London County Council is not giving planning permission to any factory development within its area which has ancillary office space in excess of 2,500 sq. ft.? Is this a satisfactory situation and do the Government wish it to continue?

Mr. Jay

We hope to publish the Bill shortly and that should clarify the situation.

Mr. Dudley Smith

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that while office limitation is to be welcomed, there are many worth-while cases for exemption which are now holding fire? Will he please hurry the legislation for exemption permits?

Mr. Jay

I agree, and we are doing so.
