§ 29. Mr. Costainasked the Minister of Power if he is aware that the possibility of coast erosion at Dungeness affecting the nuclear power station is causing considerable apprehension to local residents; and if he will give an assurance that the nuclear reactor will not be activated until it has been proved that coast erosion will not affect the safety measures which have been built into the nuclear reactor.
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Power (Mr. John Morris)I am aware of Press reports which were subsequently denied by the Central Electricity Generating Board. Erosion and accretion on the beach at Dungeness were assessed before the decision to build the station was made, and I am satisfied that it presents no threat to the safe working of the reactors.
