HC Deb 20 April 1964 vol 693 cc863-4
33. Miss Quennell

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many immigrants admitted to the United Kingdom under the Commonwealth Immigrants Act as dependent relatives have subsequently received National Assistance.

The Minister of Pensions and National Insurance (Mr. Richard Wood)

I am afraid this information is not available.

Miss Quennell

In view of the large numbers of immigrants who have been admitted under this Section of the Act, and the conflicting reports on the numbers who subsequently receive National Assistance, is it not possible for my right hon. Friend to arrange for this information to be available?

Mr. Wood

I will see whether there in any way in which I can help my hon. Friend, but the position is that the National Assistance Act does not distinguish between people who have immigrated into this country and others; therefore, the records of the National Assistance Board do not cover this question.
