HC Deb 07 April 1964 vol 692 cc778-9
8. Miss Quennell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many computers are available to his Department; and in which departments they are in use.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The departments of Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue each operate one computer, and so does the Stationery Office.

Miss Quennell

Is my right hon. Friend aware that he could have given me more precise answers to my Questions both last year and now if he had had a computer?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Even a computer is no good for indulging in the mathematical equivalent of nuclear fission.
