HC Deb 27 November 1963 vol 685 cc254-5
6. Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the arrangements made between the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board and the South of Scotland Electricity Board for the interchange of supplies over the coming winter months; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Noble

I am assured by the two boards that they are satisfied that their arrangements for the interchange of power will make the best possible use of their resources in the interest of electricity consumers throughout Scotland.

Mr. Millan

Is the Secretary of State aware that, following the publication of the Mackenzie Report, there was a great falling off of co-operation between the two boards and considerable antagonism was generated? Will the Secretary of State look into this to see that this does not apply now and that this antagonism will not prejudice supplies of electricity in Scotland over the coming winter months?

Mr. Noble

The hon. Member should not ask me to look into something which happened in the past and which is certainly not the case today. I am assured by the two boards that their closeness of operational control is as good as it possibly could be, and I am certain that no consumers in Scotland will suffer.
