HC Deb 27 November 1963 vol 685 c251
4. Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many almoners are employed full-time and part-time by the Greenock and District Hospitals Board.

The Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. J. A. Stodart)

None, Sir.

Dr. Mabon

Is the Minister aware that there is serious concern locally, especially among voluntary workers who try to help patients after discharge, that there is no one to assist these patients? Could the hon. Gentleman arrange for an investigation into the finances of the Greenock and District Hospitals Board to see whether it is possible for his Department, through the Western Regional Board, to give more money so that these essential people can be appointed?

Mr. Stodart

The post has been advertised on several occasions, without success, and it will be advertised again. I will certainly take note of what the hon. Member has said.
