11. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chief Secretary to the Treasury what action has been taken as a result of the recommendation of the Feilden Committee onEngineering Design that the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research should invite the professional institutions to prepare and issue design manuals or data sheets similar to those already prepared by the Royal Aeronautical Society, that the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research laboratories and the industrial research associations should be required to give active support in their respective fields, that the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research should consider making grantsto the professional institutions to allow them to employ the necessary expert technical staff for this purpose, and that the data sheets should be available for sale to non-members.

The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has drawn the attention of the professional institutions to this recommendation. The Department expects to receive their detailed proposals shortly and has the power to make grants in support of suitable schemes.
