HC Deb 18 November 1963 vol 684 c603
6. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Minister of Labour what proposals he has for industrial retraining schemes in the West Midlands for workers in the steel, nut and bolt and related industries who are made redundant through technological developments in these industries.

Mr. Godber

The facilities of the Government training centre at Birmingham are readily available to suitable redundant workers in these industries.

Mr. Stonehouse

Is the Minister aware that this will become a more important question as development takes place in these industries? Is he considering establishing an advisory committee from both sides of industry in order to keep in touch with these developments?

Mr. Godber

I have not yet considered that. It is an interesting suggestion. Regarding these industries, as I have indicated, there are a number of places available for retraining. I should be glad to discuss the matter with the hon. Gentleman if he wishes.
