§ 25. Sir B. Jannerasked the Minister of Health if he will state the name of the drug which turns brunettes into blondes; for what reason it is prescribed; and if he is satisfied it has no other side-effects.
§ Mr. PowellThese are clinical matters and as such are not within my responsibility.
§ Sir B. JannerIn the light of the subject matter of the Question, that is not a very colourful reply. Would the Minister say what is the name of this wonder drug and what, in fact, are its side-effects? Is he really going to ignore what is a very important matter—the effect of drugs which people are sometimes compelled to take without their knowledge?
§ Mr. PowellIt would be quite improper for me to specify the name or 907 names of drugs which produce particular clinical affects or the reasons why drugs should be prescribed.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonIs the right hon. Gentleman really saying that to turn a brunette into a blonde is a clinical operation? I would have thought it was a cosmetic one.
§ Mr. PowellI am asked the effect of a particular drug. It is not my business to indicate which drugs have what effects.
