35. Mr. Fletcher askedthe Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Lord Chief Justice and his colleagues have now completed the review of the operation of the Judges' Rules referred to them in March, 1961; and if he will publish their Report.
§ The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Henry Brooke)I am informed that progress is being made with the review and that any revised Rules will in due course be published and brought to the attention of the police and others concerned.
§ Mr. FletcherI thank the right hon. Gentleman for that reply. Is he aware that there is a great deal of concern in some quarters that the Judges' Rules are not being observed as they should be? Is it not desirable that, since this point has been under review for over two years, the Lord Chief Justice and his colleagues should be asked to produce the Report without further delay?
§ Mr. BrookeThe hon. Member will appreciate that this is not a matter wholly in my hands; but I know that it is hoped that they will be ready to present their Report by the end of the year.
