asked the Postmaster-General what proportion of telephone subscribers in Scotland is able to make use of subscriber trunk dialling.

Mr. Bevins

Twenty-seven per cent. of telephone subscribers in Scotland have the S.T.D. facility. I expect this proportion to be doubled in the next two years.

Can my right hon. Friend give me the equivalent proportion for England and Wales?

Mr. Bevins

The present figure for the United Kingdom as a whole is 32 per cent. I think that the figure for England and Wales is probably about 30 per cent.
