HC Deb 07 May 1963 vol 677 c213
19. Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what provision for deep shelters is being made from public funds at the Royal Palaces for protection in the event of nuclear attack.

Mr. Nippon

None, Sir.

Mr. Hamilton

Does the Minister's Answer imply that the Government are writing off not only the mass of the civilian population but what are commonly described as the "top people"? Can the right hon. Gentleman give the House an assurance that in the event of a nuclear attack the civilian population and Royalty will be protected adequately by the provision of deep air raid shelters?

Mr. Rippon

The Answer implies exactly what is says, that no burden is being placed on public funds. That was the Question which the hon. Gentleman asked. If he wishes to ask other Questions, he should put them on the Order Paper.

Mr. Hamilton

Is the Minister aware that I have repeatedly tried to get details of the provision made in the Civil Estimates, and the right hon. Gentleman repeatedly refuses to give detailed information?
