HC Deb 07 May 1963 vol 677 cc235-6
Q5. Mr. Healey

asked the Prime Minister to what extent he has discussed with the Prime Minister of Canada the control of nuclear weapons inside the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

The Prime Minister

My recent conversations with Mr. Lester Pearson covered a wide range of subjects on which we exchanged views. Such talks between Commonwealth Prime Ministers are of course confidential.

Mr. Healey

Can the Prime Minister at least tell the House whether the Prime Minister of Canada is proposing that his country should make a contribution to the inter-allied force which Her Majesty's Government are to propose at the forthcoming meeting of the N.A.T.O. Council in Ottawa?

The Prime Minister

I think that the Canadian Government, who are taking part in the meeting, will express their views then. It is not for me to express decisions on behalf of a Prime Minister who has been in office only a few days.
