HC Deb 07 May 1963 vol 677 c228
53. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Postmaster-General what rearrangements of the postal service will be made in the present Borough of Leyton area when the amalgamation of that borough with neighbouring boroughs has been effected.

Mr. Mawby

None, Sir.

Mr. Sorensen

Would the Government consider the possibility of making the boundaries of postal districts co-terminus with the boundaries of the new boroughs, especially in view of the fact that in Leyton there are three or four postal areas some of which overlap into neighbouring boroughs, thus causing much confusion? With a view to avoiding this confusion and for the sake of greater neatness, will the hon. Gentleman consider my suggestion?

Mr. Mawby

As we see it, postal and local government boundaries do not necessarily coincide. Changes in the latter will not in themselves call for alterations in postal boundaries. However, I will certainly examine the suggestion.
