HC Deb 07 May 1963 vol 677 cc231-2
Q2. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Prime Minister whether public statements on the leasehold system, made at a Press conference on Saturday, 27th April, by the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, represent the policy of Her Majesty's Government.

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Thomas

Is the Prime Minister aware that the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, who has expressed his deep dislike of any measure of leasehold enfranchisement, merely expressed in this Press interview opposition to any other constructive proposals being made? Would it not be better for the Minister to spend his time bringing a solution to the leasehold problem rather than just sniping at the efforts of others?

The Prime Minister

The Government made their contribution by the passing of Landlord and Tenant Act, 1954.
