HC Deb 07 May 1963 vol 677 cc222-3
35. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether he will establish an organsiation within his Department to hire out to contractors, as protection against inclement weather, air-houses and geodetic domes, technical details of which were sent by the hon. Member for West Lothian to his development unit in February, 1963.

Mr. Rippon

No, Sir, but I hope to provide more information on this subject while encouraging the industry to make its own arrangements for protection.

Mr. Dalyell

How can small contractors take advantage of scientific knowledge in this respect?

Mr. Rippon

I think that, in the first instance, it is for the industry and its clients to make their own arrangements. I do not foresee any difficulty in this regard. I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for the technical information which he provided and which is now being studied by my Director-General of Research and Development in association with the acknowledged American expert on these matters, Professor Buckminster Fuller.
