HC Deb 27 March 1963 vol 674 cc1303-4
22. Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what report he has had from the Forestry Commission on the scheme to turn Wetley Moor, Near Werrington, Staffordshire, into a public park where a number of broad-leaved trees could be planted and where, with drainage schemes, this area would serve as an amenity for the people of North Staffordshire; and whether the project will be considered for grant aid.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

It would be the responsibility of the local authority to formulate such a scheme and, as fax as the Ministry or the Forestry Commission is aware, it has not yet done so.

Mr. Davies

Is the hon. Gentleman therefore implying that there has so far been no approach for any grant for such a scheme?

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

As far as I am aware, that is the position.

Mr. Davies

May I therefore ask the hon. Gentleman to consider it favourably, if such an approach were made to him, because of the importance of the matter?

Mr. Speaker

The basis of that supplementary question would appear to be hypothetical.
