§ 35. Mr. John Hallasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how his present estimate of the yield from Purchase Tax on furniture compares with his original estimate.
§ Mr. MaudlingIt is not the practice to publish revised revenue estimates in the course of the financial year.
§ Mr. HallWithout expressing my surprise at that Answer, may I at least ask my right hon. Friend if he does not believe that the total sales of furniture for the financial year will be far less than estimated and that his yield from Purchase Tax on furniture will therefore also be far less than estimated? Will he bear that fact in mind in framing his Budget proposals?
§ Mr. MaudlingI will bear my hon. Friend's point in mind. In fact, the 1115 value of deliveries of furniture, exclusive of tax, was about the same in 1962 as in 1961.
