7. Mrs. Slaterasked the Minister of Public Building and Works when he proposes to provide for the improvements in the servery in the Members' Tea Room.
§ Mr. SharplesWe hope to carry out a number of improvements during the Summer Recess this year, including those mentioned in reply to the hon. Lady's Question to the Chairman of the Kitchen Committee on 17th December, 1962.
Mrs. SlaterDoes not the hon. Gentleman realise that this matter has been dragging on for the last two and a half 183 years and that we have had promises of this kind before? Does he appreciate that for Members of the House to have to go on waiting for improvements in this dilapidated, untidy and unfit kitchen is, particularly in a building of this kind, just not good enough? Cannot he do something before the long recess?
§ Mr. SharplesI realise that the position is unsatisfactory. This is why I am anxious to get the work done just as soon as we can. However, it is not possible to do it earlier because the fitting of a waste disposal unit, which is one of the main things to be done on the site, is a major operation which can be carried out only during the long recess in the summer.
