§ 48. Mr. Prenticeasked the Minister of Labour how many training development officers are now working under the auspices of the Industrial Training Council.
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. William Whitelaw)Sixteen, of whom nine have been appointed by industries and seven belong to the Council's Training Advisory Service.
§ Mr. PrenticeWould not the Parliamentary Secretary agree that sixteen of these officers will not make a sufficient impact m a nation of 50 million people? Is not this a matter that should receive urgent Government attention through the Industrial Training Council without waiting for discussion of wider aspects of industrial training arising from the recent White Paper?
§ Mr. WhitelawMy right hon. Friend would certainly like to see more of these valuable officers employed in industry. I should remind the hon. Member that some industries appoint training development officers without applying for financial assistance to the Industrial Training Council.
