HC Deb 04 March 1963 vol 673 c25
48. Mr. Prentice

asked the Minister of Labour how many training development officers are now working under the auspices of the Industrial Training Council.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. William Whitelaw)

Sixteen, of whom nine have been appointed by industries and seven belong to the Council's Training Advisory Service.

Mr. Prentice

Would not the Parliamentary Secretary agree that sixteen of these officers will not make a sufficient impact m a nation of 50 million people? Is not this a matter that should receive urgent Government attention through the Industrial Training Council without waiting for discussion of wider aspects of industrial training arising from the recent White Paper?

Mr. Whitelaw

My right hon. Friend would certainly like to see more of these valuable officers employed in industry. I should remind the hon. Member that some industries appoint training development officers without applying for financial assistance to the Industrial Training Council.
