HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 cc501-2
10. Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has for the extension of secondary school provision in Scotland for maladjusted children.

Lady Tweedsmuir

The provision of educational facilities for maladjusted children is primarily a matter for education authorities. No plans for the extension of secondary school provision are before my right hon. Friend at present.

Mr. Thomson

Will the noble Lady take some initiative on this? Does she not accept that it is the general responsibility of the; Secretary of State to ensure that the prevision for maladjusted children is adequate? Is she aware that the school provision in Scotland in this field is very poor indeed?

Lady Tweedsmuir

I am aware of the problems, and we have established a working party to examine exactly what guidance can be given to local authorities. It should report by the end of the year.
