HC Deb 02 July 1963 vol 680 c178
11. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state his present plans to attract industry to Aberdeen shipyards and engineering works.

Mr. Erroll

I shall continue to do everything practicable under the Local Employment Act to encourage the introduction and expansion of industry in the Aberdeen area.

Mr. Hughes

May I make a practical suggestion to the President of the Board of Trade? In view of the plans to deepen and enlarge Aberdeen Harbour, will the right hon. Gentleman consult other relevant Ministers with a view to devising means whereby Aberdeen can build methane tankers and other large ships and attract industry in that way?

Mr. Erroll

I will certainly pass the suggestion on to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
