HC Deb 29 January 1963 vol 670 c755
Q2. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister what arrangement at present exists for Ministerial responsibility for co-ordination of Government support for sport; and if he will relieve the Lord President of the Council of his responsibility for sport in view of the weight of the responsibilities he already has for science and unemployment.

The Prime Minister

Government support for sport is co-ordinated by my noble Friend the Lord President of the Council through the programmes administered by my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Housing and Local Government. I am satisfied that he will be able to do this without any adverse effect on his other responsibilities.

Mr. Dalyell

Does the Prime Minister's reply indicate that the recommendations of Sir John Wolfenden and his colleagues are not being given the urgent attention that many would like to see?

The Prime Minister

That is a rather wider question. A great deal is being done, but my Answer simply dealt with the question of Ministerial responsibility.
