HC Deb 29 January 1963 vol 670 cc727-8
Sir S. Storey

I rise to present a humble Petition on behalf of the Sale Owner Occupiers' Association. The Association, being apprehensive of the effects of revaluation of house property, are of the opinion that existing legislation relating to rating and valuation is harsh in its operation and unfair to ratepayers, and, having the support of many local authorities, ratepayer and residents associations and owner occupiers associations, as well as 25,000 individuals who have signed a Petition in similar terms to the Minister of Housing and Local Government, therefore humbly pray:

  1. (a) That Her Majesty's Government may be pleased to order an immediate inquiry into existing rating and valuation law and practice, granting such persons as they may be pleased to appoint sufficient terms of reference to enable them to recommend such changes in the method and sources of collection of local government revenues as may appear to such Commission to be just and equitable.
  2. (b) That pending consideration of such report and/or recommendations Her Majesty's Government may be pleased to recommend that the operation of the afore-mentioned re-valuation of house properties may be postponed sine die.
And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, etc.

To lie on the Table.
