HC Deb 21 February 1963 vol 672 c616
6. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, in view of the strain imposed on the resources of the Government of India resulting from the Sino-Indian conflict, what economic or financial assistance, other than for military purposes, Her Majesty's Government has offered or is prepared to offer to the Government of India in the present emergency.

Mr. Taney

We are now considering further financial assistance to India. We hope to announce our decision after discussion with our fellow-members of the Aid to India Consortium which is expected to meet fairly soon.

Mr. Sorensen

May I take it that this means not only military supplies but other forms of assistance, particularly in view of the tremendous strain now imposed on the Indian economy precisely due to the aggressive attack of the Chinese some time ago?

Mr. Tilney

Yes, Sir.
