HC Deb 14 February 1963 vol 671 c1476
30. Mr. More

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, parallel to the inquiry being held into the position of Service men wishing to stand for Parliament, he will review the rules regarding civil servants who wish to stand.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No, Sir. I have no reason to believe that the present rules are other than reasonable. If it appeared that any change made in the rules affecting members of the Armed Forces might have repercussions I would then, of course, look at the matter again.

Mr. More

I thank my right hon. Friend for that reply. Will be bear in mind that there are certain anomalies in the position as it now stands and that these might be accentuated if new rules are made affecting the Armed Services?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The question of new rules affecting the Armed Services is hypothetical but, as I have said, if such new rules arise we would certainly be prepared to look again at the rules affecting the Civil Service of the Crown.
