HC Deb 11 February 1963 vol 671 c909
2. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he held discussions with the Common Market authorities about subsidies to private forestry under Article 92 of the Treaty of Rome.

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Edward Heath)

This did not form part of our negotiations, but we have been in touch with the Commission and I understand that it is still studying the question.

Mr. Digby

Are we to understand that the whole question of British forestry has received consideration by the Government in the course of these negotiations?

Mr. Heath

It was not part of the formal negotiations, but we discussed with the members of the Commission, when we were discussing the Treaty generally, what their plans for forestry within the Community would be.
