HC Deb 11 February 1963 vol 671 cc937-8
57. Sir J. Maitland

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what is the capital value to a single person and to a husband and wife, respectively, of the retirement pension on becoming eligible for the rate of pensions proposed under the new proposed rates of pension; and how much in each ease the pensioner will have personally subscribed in contributions.

Mr. N. Macpherson

The capital value to a single man retiring at age 65 when the proposed pension rates come into force will be about £1,700, and to a married couple where the wife is five years younger about £3,600. The maximum value of the contributions the man can have paid for these pensions will be about £230 (with a similar amount from his employer).
