HC Deb 03 December 1963 vol 685 c977
Q5. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister when the Political Honours Scrutiny Committee last met.

The Prime Minister

On 26th November.

Mr. Hughes

Did the Political Honours Scrutiny Committee, on this occasion, scrutinise the case of the well-known footballer who was sent to the House of Lords, presumably, to strengthen the House of Lords Rugby football team? Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that it is an abuse of the political honours system to use the House of Lords in order to transfer someone there from this place in order to provide a safe seat for somebody from the other place who wants to come here?

Mr. Speaker

The second part of that supplementary question is in order. The first part is not.

The Prime Minister

The Question was a very simple one, asking when the Political Honours Scrutiny Committee last met. I have answered it. There is nothing I can add.
