HC Deb 03 December 1963 vol 685 c956
9. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, when considering proposals for new universities, he will establish a university in Dorset.

Mr. Green

I would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer which my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary gave to the hon. Member for Anglesey (Mr. C. Hughes) on 19th November.

Mr. Digby

I do not know the position in Wales, but is my hon. Friend aware that King Alfred is said to have been educated at Sherborne in Dorest? It can therefore be said that we staked our claim a long time ago.

Mr. Green

I appreciate the historical value of my hon. Friend's remarks.
