30. Mr. Boyden

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works if he will ensure that hot water, lavatory and changing accommodation and facilities for meals are invariably provided on all building and construction sites for which public authorities are responsible, whether directly or through contractors.

Mr. Sharples

We intend that all these facilities shall be provided on all large projects for which the Ministry is responsible. We are not directly responsible for the contractual practice of other public authorities, but we are considering how these may best be encouraged to make the same arrangements.

Mr. Boyden

Will the hon. Gentleman's Ministry ensure by contractual arrangements that every private builder supplies these facilities to a satisfactory standard?

Mr. Sharples

I think that we can do best by setting an example ourselves and including provision for these arrangements in the contracts which we ourselves negotiate.
