HC Deb 11 April 1963 vol 675 cc1475-6
Q10. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister whether the public speech of the Home Secretary on 5th April at the annual meeting of the Ulster Unionist Council on the question of maintaining transport communications between Scotland and Northern Ireland represents the policy of Her Majesty's Government.

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Hughes

Can the Prime Minister explain what the Home Secretary meant when he said that social and political consequences would be taken into consideration before the closing down of a railway line which keeps Ulster Unionists in touch with Western civilisation? Can the right hon. Gentleman assure us that every possible consideration will be given before the closing down of a railway which has played an important part in relations between Scotland and Ireland?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir.
