HC Deb 10 April 1963 vol 675 c1249
1. Commander Kerans

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty when it is intended to reappoint a British Naval Attaché at Oslo.

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Mr, C. Ian Orr-Ewing)

We are discussing with the other Departments concerned the possibility of appointing an Assistant Naval Attaché to Oslo as an alternative.

Commander Kerans

Would not my hon. Friend agree it is high time that the Treasury reconsidered this, issue, bearing in mind that the Norwegian Navy is rebuilding? Is not this a great opportunity to get some of these orders for the North-East Coast at an early date? I hope that my hon. Friend will advise the Treasury to rethink this matter out again.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

I am aware of those facts. Oslo is not without naval representation, for we have a vice-admiral, a captain, four commanders and eight junior officers at the N.A.T.O. headquarters in that city.
