HC Deb 09 April 1963 vol 675 c1066
6. Mr. Hayman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will arrange for the headquarters of the Board of Trade to be transferred to Falmouth when the changes in Government buildings take place consequent on the reorganisation of the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. Barber

No, Sir.

Mr. Hayman

Will the Financial Secretary bear in mind that Falmouth has been scheduled as a development district for a long time, that there is heavy unemployment there and that not a single new industry has been channelled to Falmouth by the Board of Trade? Does he recall that the Prime Minister told the House last week that there was a committee considering the dispersal of Government Departments from London, and will he ask his right hon. Friend to take the needs of Falmouth into account when the share-out does take place?

Mr. Barber

The review is being carried out, as I think the hon. Gentleman knows, by Sir Gilbert Flemming, who will, I am sure, bear in mind the claims of Falmouth.
