HC Deb 08 April 1963 vol 675 cc891-2
3. Mr. Harper

asked the Minister of Labour if he will extend the Remploy factory at Pontefract so as to provide more employment for the area's disabled.

Mr. Hare

No, Sir. Remploy provides for the severely disabled. The existing factory meets this need, and there are only five severely disabled persons unemployed at Pontefract.

Mr. Harper

Is the Minister aware that the area covered by this Remploy factory contains disabled workpeople of very high quality? As there is plenty of land contiguous to the present factory, will not he consider this extension?

Mr. Hare

I will consider it, of course, and if I thought there was a substantial need I would look at it favourably. However, I have just given the hon. Member the figures.
