HC Deb 04 April 1963 vol 675 cc604-5
3. Mr. Burden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether any monkeys, dogs, cats, horses, donkeys or mules have been used in trying to induce lung cancer through the inhalation of tobacco smoke.

The Joint Under Secretary of State, Home Department (Mr. C. M. Woodhouse)

No, Sir.

Mr. Burden

Would my hon. Friend not agree that had he made it perfectly clear that no other animals, apart from those which had been indicated as being used on 7th February, were, in fact, used, this Question would have been unnecessary?

Mr. Woodhouse

I agree that that was so and I am sorry if my Answer on that occasion unwittingly misled my hon. Friend. I referred then to the animals being so used, including those which I listed in my Answer on that occasion. I did so because I was not at that time quite certain that no other animals, besides those I listed, had been used. I am now certain.
