HC Deb 27 November 1962 vol 668 cc188-9
12. Mr. Gower

asked the President of the Board of Trade on how many occasions in the last five years he has advised industrialists not to carry out developments at Barry Docks.

Mr. D. Price

None, Sir.

Mr. Gower

Is it not the case that, during the last 18 months, without objection by the Board of Trade—indeed, with its blessing—several new firms have gone to the Barry Docks area with new industry while other firms have expanded existing industry there? Is it not, therefore, a matter of serious concern to the Board of Trade that these salutary developments are now threatened by the very unwise and wrong suggestions of the Rochdale Report that these docks should be closed down?

Mr. Price

Questions about the future of Barry Docks should be addressed to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
