HC Deb 05 November 1962 vol 666 c571
1. Sir Richard Pilkington

asked the Minister of Labour how many people are now recorded as being in employment in Great Britain.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. John Hare)

24,048,000 in mid-September, 1962.

Sir Richard Pilkington

Is this a record, and, if so, does it not do something to balance the fact that there are about 500,000 people out of work at present?

Mr. Hare

This is not a record. At the end of September, 1961, the total was 24,060,000.
