HC Deb 30 May 1962 vol 660 c1352
27. Mr. Gourlay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when the building of the second extension to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, will start; and when he expects it to be ready for use.

Mr. Maclay

The tenders for this project have just been received by the regional hospital board. The precise starting date will be settled with the successful tenderer. As I told the hon. Member on 7th February, the present estimated construction period is two and a half years.

Mr. Gourlay

Is the Secretary of State aware that there is a grave shortage of geriatric beds, particularly in Fife, which will not be relieved until this hospital is completed? Will he take every step possible to ensure the most rapid completion of the hospital in Kirkcaldy.

Mr. Maclay

I am very anxious to see this hospital completed as soon as possible.
