HC Deb 17 May 1962 vol 659 cc1511-2
9. Mr. Tilney

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has yet decided to grant Commonwealth preference for a further period from September, 1962, to products from the western part of the Cameroon Republic.

Sir K. Joseph

I cannot yet add to my reply to a similar Question by my hon. Friend on 10th April.

Mr. Tilney

Since the problems have been known for many months, is it not time Her Majesty's Government made up their mind about this, especially when substantial British trade interests are involved in West Cameroon? Does not my hon. Friend realise that it is almost impossible to plan ahead if it is not known what preference is to be given?

Sir K. Joseph

My hon. Friend can count on most sympathetic consideration of the problem.
